Learn
about Quality Matters (QM) from Dr. Chris Sax, an original founding team member. QM has received national recognition for its
peer-based approach to quality assurance and continuous improvement in online
education. QM created a set of review criteria based
on the research literature and national standards. These criteria were incorporated into an
interactive web-based rubric with annotations, and developed training and a process
for conducting team course reviews. Visit the QM website: http://www.qualitymatters.org/
Since 1994 the
online consultants Rena M. Palloff and Keith Pratt, partners of Crossroads
Consulting, have collaboratively conducted pioneering research, consulted and
trained in the emerging areas of online group facilitation, face-to-face and
online community building, program planning and development of distance
learning programs, faculty development and coaching for online teaching. They are the authors of Building Online Learning Communities (2nd edition), Building
Learning Communities in Cyberspace, Collaborating Online, Lessons from the
Cyberspace Classroom, and The Virtual Student. Visit

Quality
Matters:
Building quality assurance into the online course development process assists
in the efficient creation of high quality courses. Maryland Online originally developed
Quality Matters (QM) as a standards-based rubric to review online courses. The presenter will discuss how QM standards
can be used to build quality into new online courses. Methods change, but standards of quality
endure. Discover how you can create a replicable process for your
program. QM is a diagnostic tool to facilitate continuous improvement of
online/hybrid courses. |

Wikis
& Blogs: How would you define a wiki or blog? How
could you use them in your courses? If you have not explored these new tools
or would like to see what others have done, & discuss ideas, this session
is for you! Are you having students
reflect on their reading assignments or experiences, and write them in a
notebook? With blogs, you can have immediate access online to the student’s
entries in reverse chronological order & can add comments any time. You can decide if you want individual/personal
journals or whole class journals or both. Come explore with early adopters,
gain insight, and develop ideas. |
